Greenhill Humane Society and Lane County Animal Services Partner to Rescue 98 Small Dogs

Eugene, OR: Greenhill Humane Society and Lane County Animals Services have rescued 98 small breed dogs from an overcrowded property in western Lane County. Greenhill joined Lane County Animal Services to assist in removing the dogs from a private home yesterday, October 16. The owner has voluntarily surrendered all of the dogs.

When rescuers arrived on the scene, they found nearly one hundred dogs, dozens more than originally anticipated. All animals were in extremely overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, found both indoors and in outdoor pens. The dogs range in age from newborn to senior, including dogs who are pregnant and nursing.

Greenhill transported all of the dogs to their Green Hill Road shelter. The dogs are receiving preliminary medical and behavioral evaluations and being treated and cared for according to their needs. Each dog will receive a medical evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation if necessary, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a microchip before being made available for adoption.

“Right now, financial support is needed to care for these animals,” says Sasha Elliott, Greenhill spokesperson. “We will let everyone know when we are looking for adopters, but right now, basic care is critical. Without any known history of veterinary care, we are currently determining what each individual animal needs to start the next chapter in their lives happy and healthy.”

Greenhill Humane Society is a non profit organization and cares for thousands of lost, stray, abandoned, and neglected animals each year. Donations can be made online at www.Green-Hill.org/donate, via mail, or in person at either of Greenhill’s shelter locations.

People interested in adopting should watch www.Green-Hill.org and Greenhill’s social media pages for updates.

If you know someone who might be an animal hoarder, or suspect an animal is being neglected or abused, please contact your local Animal Welfare office in your jurisdiction.
