We’ve cared for thousands of kittens this year and anticipate hundred more to come into the shelter needing medical treatment\, nourishment\, and lots of TLC. Join us on Friday\, September 13 and Saturday\, September 14 from 11 am – 4 pm for Greenhill’s Kitten Shower Adoption Event and Supply Drive. Visitors are invited to meet numerous kittens looking for their fur-ever homes\, learn about becoming a volunteer or foster family and enjoy some serious kitten cuddles! \nGuests are invited to bring an item from our Wish List. The wish list items labeled for our Kitten Shower are vital supplies Greenhill needs to help care for these kittens. Last year\, Greenhill’s foster families cared for 434 kittens and the number is expected to increase this year. \nSee items needed on our Amazon wish list and Chewy Wish list. Our high needs items are: \n\nPowdered KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer)\nRoyal Canin mother and babycat canned food and kibble\nKitten canned food & kibble\nMiracle Nipples (mini)\nDigital food scales\nSnuggle Safes\nSmall cat toys\n\nSee all available cats up for adoption here. All adoptions are on a first come\, first serve basis with meet and greets every day from 11am – 4pm. All kitten and adult cat adoptions include: a physical exam and behavioral evaluation by a trained staff\, spay/neuter surgery\, vaccinations\, flea and worm treatment\, a collar and ID tag\, pre-adoption consultation\, trackable microchip\, 30 day trial of pet insurance\, post-adoption support. All cats must be transported home in a carrier (available to purchase for $5) and if it is not a good fit\, new pets can be returned to Greenhill at any time. \nLearn more about becoming a foster family here. Greenhill provides the needed supplies to the foster families. Very young kittens are first fostered by one of our 95 foster care families until the kittens are old enough to be adopted. This is typically between 4 to 8 weeks of age after getting vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Many kittens are so young their eyes are not yet open\, and they need to be bottle fed every two hours. They also require gentle handling and socialization. This helps to build their confidence and comfort around people. \nFind additional information on kitten season and resources here.

DESCRIPTION:Lane County Animal Services is partnering with Greenhill Humane Society to host a training for people interested in learning more about preparing animals large and small for an evacuation or volunteering to support livestock transportation\, feeding\, and sheltering operations during emergencies. \n“With wildfire season starting soon\, this is a good time to help our residents refresh their understanding of evacuating with pets or livestock\,” said Lane County Animal Welfare Officer Isabel Merritt. “We’re also hoping to build our volunteer list ahead of the next emergency. We rely on volunteers to help care for horses\, goats\, chickens and other livestock during emergency evacuations and this training will help increase the number of people ready to help.” \nThe training is Saturday\, June 8\, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lane County Public Works’ Goodson Room (3040 North Delta Highway\, Eugene). Map here. If you plan to attend\, please send an email to Lane County Animal Services at LCAS@LaneCountyOR.gov so staff can plan accordingly. \nTopics covered will include: \n-preparing animals for evacuation \n-overview of services provided by Lane County Animal Services and Greenhill Humane Society during emergencies \n-how to help during emergencies \n-livestock shelter\, transport and shelter-in-place practices \n-volunteer orientation for those wishing to assist during emergencies \nVolunteers help transport animals out of evacuation zones; support animals sheltering in place in evacuation zones with food\, water and welfare checks; and feed\, groom and clean up after animals being sheltered with Lane County Animal Services. They may also assist with organizing donations of food\, tack or other items. \nVolunteers do not need previous large animal experience\, but they should be comfortable learning and being around large animals. People between the ages of 15 and 18 will need to have a guardian’s signed release before they can volunteer during an active emergency; they do not need a release to attend the training. They provide comfort and security to us when times are the hardest. For people and families who are struggling with housing\, financial\, or food insecurity\, giving up their loved companion may seem like the only choice. That’s why Greenhill Humane Society runs a year-round Community Pet Pantry which provides free pet food and supplies for people and families in need. \nIn 2023\, Greenhill distributed over 92 thousand pounds of pet food throughout Lane County. \nBecause our community’s need is so high\, in addition to our on-site pet pantry\, we have partnered with non-profits throughout Lane County to distribute food and supplies where it’s needed most. It’s Dog Day at the ballpark! You can bring your furry friend with you to the game by purchasing a pooch pass. \nGreenhill will throw out the first pitch and adoptable dogs from the shelter will have their bios presented on the big screen in the hopes that their loving family is in the crowd. All dogs must have a ticket. All proceeds from the tickets for your pooches will be donated directly to Greenhill Humane Society. \nDogs must be leashed at all times and be vaccinated. \nPurchase tickets at https://www.milb.com/eugene. \nAll dogs will need their own ticket which is $3. Individuals with a dog must enter through the home plate gates and sign a waiver upon entry. When choosing your seat\, press the option to add the pooch pass for $3 in Standard Zone 1 or 2. Participants will receive information about their pet’s microchip number\, manufacturer\, and contact information so they can ensure that all information is up to date. \nPet families that plan to stop by the shelter for Check the Chip day should have their animals safely secured with a leash or in a carrier.

There’s the run\, the walk\, canine activities\, vendor booths\, demonstrations\, and more! \nFundraise for the animals! With your help we hope to raise $100\,000 to help care for over 3\,400 animals in 2023. Pre-registration until May 20th is $35 and includes a doggie bandana or $50 with a doggie bandana and a t-shirt for humans. Day-of Registration is $40 with a bandana or $55 with a bandana and shirt (while supplies last.)
