Greenhill’s Summer-Long Kitten Shower Celebration

Annual adoption promotion and donation drive to help hundreds of kittens that will come through the shelter this year

LANE COUNTY, OREGON – (July 9, 2025) – Kitten season has already begun, which means hundreds of kittens are arriving at Greenhill Humane Society in need of shelter, medical treatment, socialization, and more. The shelter is asking the community for support during their summer-long “kitten shower celebration” to stock up on needed supplies and find loving, new homes for the hundreds of anticipated kittens.

“We’ve already seen almost 400 kittens come to us in need of around-the-clock care, and throughout the summer, we anticipate caring for hundreds more,” said Kelly Fleischmann, Greenhill’s Community Engagement Manager.  “We are asking the community for support by donating a special gift off our wish list, adding one of these adorable kittens to your family, or becoming a foster parent. Fostering a kitten or kittens even if for a short period of time, is a huge help, especially at this time. We could not provide the life-saving work we do without the help of our wonderful community.”

Greenhill anticipates caring for over 1,400 cats and kittens this summer. In 2024, Greenhill cared for over 1,330 kittens in need of medical treatment, nourishment, and lots of TLC.

Community members are encouraged to purchase an item from Greenhill’s wish list and monetary donations are greatly appreciated as Greenhill is often able to purchase items in bulk and at a discount. Monetary gifts can be made online here.

People interested in adopting a kitten can visit the shelter every day with adoption meet and greets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All kitten and adult cat adoptions include: a physical exam and behavioral evaluation by a trained staff, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, a collar and ID tag, pre-adoption consultation, trackable microchip, and post-adoption support. All cats must be transported home in a carrier (available to purchase for $5) and if it is not a good fit, new pets can be returned to Greenhill at any time. To see all the cats up for adoption, visit Greenhill’s cat adoption page (https://www.green-hill.org/adopt_cat).

People not ready to adopt can join Greenhill’s foster program along with over 95 other foster families dedicated to helping vulnerable animals like bottle baby kittens or pregnant mamas. In 2024, Greenhill’s foster families cared for nearly 600 cats, including over 530 kittens. The shelter expects this year’s total to exceed last year’s. Foster homes provide a calm, quiet place for an animal to heal and learn to trust. Foster families receive all necessary supplies and support from Greenhill’s veterinary team. The animal’s length of stay can vary depending on the animal’s needs and the foster parent’s availability. Anyone interested in becoming a foster family for these babies can learn more here (https://www.green-hill.org/foster_care).
