Greenhill Humane Society Rescues 21 Cats in collaboration with Lane County Animal Services

LANE COUNTY, OREGON – (February 11, 2026) –Greenhill Humane Society,  a life-saving animal welfare organization, is working with Lane County Animal Services (LCAS) to rescue cats from a property after their owner passed away.

The rescue operations began on Friday, February 6th, near Marcola, Oregon. Greenhill’s team and LCAS rescued 21 cats who were transported directly from the property to Greenhill to receive immediate medical care. “It was clear when we arrived on site that the cats had gone without consistent food, water, or veterinary care for a substantial amount of time,” said Aly Larson, Greenhill’s Communications Coordinator. “Our team’s focus now is to stabilize their health, treat their illnesses, and give them the care and love they need to recover.”

Many of the cats arrived with upper respiratory infections, fleas, and internal parasites. Greenhill’s staff are providing care; including eye ointment, antibiotics, warm compresses, flea treatment, dewormer, and vaccinations.  Special feeding plans are in place for cats who arrived malnourished. Prior to adoption, unaltered cats will be spayed or neutered. “We are grateful for the support of our community and the collaboration with our rescue partners to address the situation as it develops,” said Sasha Elliott, Greenhill’s Director of Operations.  “We are confident that under the care or our team, these cats will heal and be ready to find new, loving homes.” Greenhill and LCAS staff are working with a family member of the deceased, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Community members are encouraged to donate online or in person to help support medical treatment, food, and shelter for cats in Greenhill’s care.  Adoptions are also encouraged. Volunteering and foster support are essential to shelter operations.
