Marcola Cat Rescue Grows with 38 Cats in Total Rescued

LANE COUNTY, OREGON – (February 13, 2026) –Greenhill Humane Society rescued 17 additional cats from a home in Marcola, Oregon after their owner passed away. This brings the total number of cats saved to 38, all rescued in the span of one week in partnership with Lane County Animal Services (LCAS).

After rescuing 21 cats on February 6, Greenhill and LCAS returned to the property on February 11 to remove 17 additional cats.

Like the first group of cats, the second group is suffering from malnourishment, upper respiratory infections, fleas, and internal parasites. Greenhill’s staff are providing care including eye ointment, antibiotics, warm compresses, flea treatment, dewormer, and vaccinations.  Special feeding plans are in place for cats who arrived malnourished. Prior to adoption, unaltered cats will be spayed or neutered.

Several cats from the first group of 21 have responded favorably to treatment and are available for adoption or have already found loving homes.
“It’s been comforting to see the improvement these cats have been able to make in a short period of time” says Cary Lieberman, Greenhill’s Executive Director. “We’re thankful for our expert team, the partnership with Lane County, and the donors and volunteers who make this possible.”
The large intake of medically fragile cats puts a strain on the organization that relies on donations to fund its work. Greenhill Humane Society encourages people to make donations to support the care of these cats and other animals with similar needs.

The cats will be available for adoption, in the days and weeks ahead, when they have been brought up to good health. Some of the cats are already available including:

Mountain Dew

Mountain Dew is a 10-month-old short haired, grey tabby with beautiful white face and paw markings. This outgoing kitty will follow you anywhere and adores flopping over for attention. The only thing he loves more than food is contact with people and being the center of attention. He is a very sweet boy that would make a steadfast, loyal companion.

Sunkist

Sunkist is a 1-year-old short-haired, buff tabby. While she can be a bit shy at first, she warms up quickly and will chat back and forth with you. If you are looking for a calm kitty who loves head scritches, she may be the kitty for you! Please ask about her medical release if you are interested in adopting.

Dr. Pepper

Dr. Pepper is a 1-year-old black, short-haired kitty who might have been a supermodel in a past life, as he knows all his best angles. He could be the medicine for companionship you’ve been needing.
