400 Animals and Counting:
Greenhill Encourages People to Adopt a Pet for Valentine’s Day
“Love Finds a Home” adoption special runs February 1st through February 14th
Eugene, Oregon – (February 2, 2026) – Greenhill Humane Society has cared for more than 400 animals since the beginning of this year, reflecting the large, ongoing need for life-saving animal care and shelter in Lane County. Greenhill currently has more than 60 animals available for adoption who are ready to find loving homes.
“Adoption is where compassion turns into action,” says Sasha Elliott, Greenhill’s Director of Operations. “We have so many special animals looking for their person. Each time an animal is adopted from Greenhill, it allows us to care for another animal in need. One simple act creates a ripple effect of care that positively impacts our whole community.”
In an effort to connect animals with families, Greenhill will be running a “Love Finds a Home” adoption special from February 1st through February 14th. During the promotion, all dogs, cats and rabbits over 1 year old are just $50, with seniors and veterans receiving an additional discount.
Pictured below are few of the animals currently in our care who are part of this adoption special:
Ghost: Ghost is an athletic 1.5-year-old mixed breed dog that would make a great adventure buddy for someone with an active lifestyle. He still acts like a puppy and will need encouragement from his future adopters to learn how to play respectfully. He is super goofy and the best snuggle buddy after long walks or runs.
Caramel and Marshmallow: Caramel is a super cute male lionhead mix rabbit with luscious hair to show for it! Marshmallow is a beautiful, larger male bunny. While Marshmallow likes to lounge and redecorate, Caramel loves running around, zooming through tubes, and exploring his environment before checking in with Marshmallow to give him a few kisses! They are bonded and will need to go home together.
Rump: Rump is a handsome 12-year-old domestic shorthair kitty. He loves greeting people with little chirps and will chat back and forth with you. Rump enjoys pets and tasty soft treats since he does not have that many teeth. He would appreciate a loving home with access to the outdoors so he can come and go as he pleases.
Between now and Valentine’s Day, Greenhill is also offering a fun way to share love with pets with its “Impurrfect Valentines” portraits fundraiser. With a $20 donation, people can receive a one-of-a-kind, staff-drawn portrait of their own pet, providing a meaningful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day while giving back to help animals.
