What is Clear the Shelters?

Clear the Shelters is nationwide pet adoption initiative that happens every year. Folks all across the nation are encouraged to adopt an animal from their local shelter in an effort to “clear the shelters” and find good homes for pets in need. According to Clear the Shelters website, “since 2015, and with support from our shelter partners, Clear The Shelters has resulted in more than 410,000 pet adoptions.” Pawesome news for pets and people! Plus, donations to Greenhill from August 1 – August 9 will be doubled up to $10,000 thanks to a match using this link: https://bit.ly/3gsWzOg.

Clear the Shelters is All Month Long Now!

The COVID pandemic has changed a lot of things, and one of them is how Clear the Shelters will run this year. For everyone’s safety, we want to make sure there are only a small number of visitors in the shelter at any one time. But we also want everyone to have the chance to meet their new best friend! So this year, instead of a nationwide, one-day call to action, NBC and Telemundo owned stations, affiliated stations, and partner shelters/rescues will host a month-long “Adopt and Donate” campaign from August 1 to August 31.

So How Will Clear the Shelters work for Greenhill?

To keep on-site numbers low and protect our awesome visitors, volunteers and staff, we’ll be keeping to our new norm of adoptions by appointment only. Keep an eye on Greenhills website, and if you see someone you’d love to meet, give us a call between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.! We’d be happy to set up a time for you to come out and visit.

Greenhill Humane Society will not be reducing adoption prices for this campaign. Instead, adopters will go home with an adoption package filled with goodies thanks to Hills Science Diet and other event sponsors!

Because the Clear the Shelters message this year is Adopt and Donate, we’ll also have a fundraising opportunity, provided by The Greater Good, a non-profit group that helps “people, pets and the planet.” If you’re not able to adopt (or if you’re in a position to do both!) contributing to this fundraiser is another great way to help animals in need.
