Newly Named Petco Love Invests in Lifesaving Work of Greenhill Humane Society

Grant of $17,500 will help save more pet lives in Lane County

Eugene, OR (May 6, 2021) – Greenhill Humane Society announced today a $17,500 grant investment from the newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in Lane County.

The Petco Love investment will support Greenhill’s pet retention efforts within Lane County. The grant will be used to help Greenhill’s programs that support community members facing financial and other strains. This includes Greenhill’s Community Pet Food Bank which offers pet food and supplies to people needing extra help, and their Crisis Care Program which provides temporary housing for animals whose owners are in crises such as domestic violence, hospitalization, incarceration and other crisis situations.

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. They’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Greenhill Humane Society and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. This month, we also launched the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”

“The funds from this grant will go right back to helping our local community members and their beloved pets,” said Greenhill’s Executive Director, Cary Lieberman. “Since the pandemic and local fires, the need to support our neighbors has increased, and this grant from Petco Love will allow us to expand our resources towards programs aimed to keep families and pets together.”

Greenhill Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that has been caring for animals in Lane County since 1944 and operates the only animal shelter within the Eugene/Springfield area. Last year, the shelter cared for over 3,123 animals, including pets needing emergency boarding during the Holiday Farm Fire. In addition, it provided more than 1,961 surgeries and distributed over 50,000 pounds of pet food through our Community Pet Food Bank.
