Greenhill’s 29th Annual Bark in the Park Returns

The run/walk fundraiser and festival to help thousands of local, homeless pets returns to Alton Baker Park on May 15

EUGENE, OREGON – (March 11, 2022) – After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Greenhill Humane Society is excited to be holding one of its longest running and largest fundraisers in-person again. In its 29th year, Bark in the Park will be held on Sunday, May 15 at Alton Baker Park.

In past years the 10K, 5K, 2K run/walk and pet festival has drawn over 1,000 dogs and their humans. The event, which celebrates the human-animal bond is also one of Greenhill’s largest fundraisers of the year with a goal of raising $100,000 to help care for over 3,100 animals in 2022.

“The largest party for pups and their people is back and we could not be more excited to host an in-person Bark in the Park this year,” said Megan Burroughs, Greenhill’s Community Engagement and Humane Education Manager. “With the support of our animal-loving community we can reach our goal of raising $100,000 and provide the desperately needed services for the pets and their people in Lane County.”

Festivities include the run, the walk, canine activities, vendor booths, food trucks, demonstrations, contests and more. Bark in the Park is the largest pet event in the Southern Willamette Valley and one of the largest run/walks in Eugene. Runners can participate as an individual (with or without a dog) or join a team.

This year, Greenhill Humane Society hopes to raise $100,000 for the animals and is relying on the community for help. The shelter relies on donations and grants for much of its funding, which is used for a variety of services and resources for the animals and the community. In addition to caring for over 3,000 homeless, lost and neglected pets, Greenhill programs include, but are not limited to: adoption services, education, Community Pet Pantry, domestic violence assistance, senior assistance, pet retention assistance, spay/neuter programs, disaster response, volunteer opportunities and foster care.
