Greenhill’s Kitten Shower Celebration

Celebrate Kitten Season by adopting a kitten, donating needed supplies, or fostering

EUGENE, OREGON – (June 20, 2022) – Summer is here and so are the kittens! Kitten season has already begun which means it’s time to bulk up on care supplies for the hundreds of feline babies who will come to Greenhill Humane Society needing medical treatment, socialization, love and more. The need to help kittens find their fur-ever homes is a yearly effort, but from Monday, June 20 through Sunday, June 26 Greenhill will be hosting a virtual kitten shower celebration, encouraging the local community to adopt kittens, donate vital supplies, or join our foster program.

“Every day we see more kittens come through our doors in desperate need of bottle feeding, medical attention and love,” said Megan Burroughs, Greenhill’s Community Engagement & Humane Education Manager. “With the help of foster families kittens, who are under our care for an average of 8 weeks, receive vaccines and nutritious food before getting spayed or neutered and becoming available for adoption. Donations of supplies are critical to saving these young kittens’ lives.”

Animal lovers that want to make a difference can view Greenhill’s online wish lists to ship items directly to the shelter or can drop donations off at Greenhill all summer long. The shelter’s high demand items include KMR (kitten milk replacer), momma cat and kitten canned food and kibble, digital food scales used to weigh the kittens, and mini Miracle Nipples. The donated supplies are utilized in Greenhill’s foster program.

Last year, Greenhill’s foster families cared for 449 kittens. So far in 2022, Greenhill has sent over 216 kittens into foster homes and expects this year’s total to exceed last year’s. Foster homes provide a calm, quiet place for an animal to heal and learn to trust. Foster families receive all necessary supplies and support from Greenhill’s veterinary team. The animal’s length of stay can vary depending on the animal’s needs and the foster parent’s availability. Anyone interested in becoming a foster home for these babies can learn more here (https://www.green-hill.org/foster_care).

People interested in adopting a kitten should keep an eye on the Greenhill website for available kittens and visit Greenhill between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The shelter is operating on a first come first served limited capacity basis.

All kitten and adult cat adoptions include: a physical exam and behavioral evaluation by trained staff, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, a collar and ID tag, pre-adoption consultation, microchip registered with 24Petwatch, and post-adoption support. All cats must be transported home in a carrier (available to purchase for $5).
